The world leaders in infant feeding gather in Al-Ain during UAE National Breastfeeding Week (8-14 November 2009) under the umbrella of “Global Breastfeeding Initiative for Child Survival (gBICS)”
The gBICS is a worldwide civil society-driven initiative aiming to accelerate progress in attaining the health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015, especially Goal 4, reduction of child mortality, by scaling up early, exclusive and continued breastfeeding.
The aim of this conference is to end the avoidable sufferings caused by inappropriate infant feeding.

OBJECTIVES:

Documenting the vital role of breastfeeding in reducing morbidity and mortality.

To highlight the contribution of increased prevalence of breastfeeding in increasing economic status at national level.

To re-establish breastfeeding culture in the region and develop strategic directions for the region.
