Trauma Surgery

Trauma is a physical injury or wound caused by some sort of force or impact, such as a fall, an automobile accident, or an accident at work. Trauma is the leading cause of death and disability in young people in the UAE. Trauma care has specialised diagnostic and treatment procedures that distinguish it from emergency medicine. The multi-system nature of traumatic injury requires the recognition and assessment of the severity of injuries in each patient, and a core mission of Al-Ain Hospital is to provide the entire community with a first class trauma service.

Scope of Services

Al Ain Hospital provides top-of-the-range, around-the-clock surgical and medical care for traumatic injuries. Al Ain Hospital’s trauma care is state-of-the-art thanks to the international visiting experts from the Trauma Department of Vienna Medical University, one of the leading trauma centres in Europe.

  • A Triage Nurse or Triage Doctor, who will assign a priority to the patient in relation to the urgency of need for treatment, assesses all injured patients arriving in the Emergency Centre. After initial assessment and management, a referral to other specialist medical units may be necessary.

  • Severely injured patients arriving in the Emergency Centre will be seen by a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including trauma surgeons, general surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons and ENT, urology and ophthalmology specialists.

Staff and Equipment

  • The Emergency Centre is equipped with X-ray, CT scan, MRI facilities, and has three acute surgical wards: two male and one female.

  • An Intensive Care ward and an operating room is staffed around the clock.

  • Our team of specialists includes trauma surgeons, general surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and ENT, urology and ophthalmology specialists.

  • All our doctors are highly trained, qualified and work in compliance with the ATLS guidelines.
