ENT - Ear, Nose, Throat

The ear, nose and throat department is one of the most active surgical departments in the area, managing patients with ear, nose and throat diseases as well as those with head and neck conditions. The department receives patients from both the Al Ain district and also from other Emirates when opinions are required for treatment. The department has an Audiology section for treating deaf patients, which has facilities for carrying out audiological investigations, screening newborns for hearing loss and advising on and fitting hearing aids, also speech therapy section started in the beginning of 2010 giving service of in both languages Arabic and English for adult and pediatric patient with speech problems.

Scope of Services

Management of acute and emergency cases through the Emergency Centre.

Operative treatment of different conditions relating to head and neck diseases and traumas. The introduction of laser and coblation therapy to our department has improved the quality of our surgical work, which minimizes complications.

Endoscopic surgery of the nose, paranasal sinuses and laryngeal diseases.

In-/out-patient treatment and follow-up treatment for specific patients.

Management of sleep disorders and in corporations with respiratory department in conducting sleep study for the diagnosis of sleep diseases.

ENT Clinic services.

Certified speech and language pathologists evaluate and treat patients in the areas of auditory comprehension, expressive communication, social language, speech production ,oral motor weakness and swallowing disorders. Therapeutic programs are individualized to maximize speech, language and communication skills.

The department offers comprehensive audiological evaluations for all age groups from newborns to the geriatric population. The audiological tests performed in the department are Pure tone audiometer, Speech eudiometry, Impedance audiometry, acoustic reflex testing and electrophysiological measures such as ABR and ASSR.

Neonatal hearing screening is routinely done in the postnatal ward and NICU using the most advanced technology of Automated Brain stem Response . The screening is done for all the babies born in this hospital prior to their discharge and aims at early identification of hearing loss and initiation of early intervention programmed on or before 6 months of age.

Daily out-patient clinic from 8.00 am to 3.30 pm. Patients are usually referred from Primary Health Care, private sectors and other departments.
