Infectious Diseases
Al Ain Hospital is the only facility in the region with a dedicated Infectious Diseases unit, comprising a dedicated 12-bed ward for patients with infectious diseases.
Patient rooms are equipped with negative pressure capability which means that each room has its own air-conditioning supply to insulate against and prevent the spread of infection.
All rooms in the Infectious Diseases Department are equipped very patient-friendly and have television points and en-suite bathrooms.
Scope of Services
The ward treats patients with any infection, ranging from viral infections such as chickenpox and infectious hepatitis (liver infection) to more severe infections such as meningitis (infection of the brain membrane), malaria, typhoid and undulant fever (brucellosis). Many patients also suffer from fever of unknown origin which is often due to infection, but can also be caused by an inflammatory disease linked to the field of rheumatology or sometimes a disease of the blood.
Our patients also benefit from the expertise of internists, both within the hospital and also from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of UAE University.
The Infectious Diseases unit holds weekly out-patient clinics on Wednesdays and alternate Sundays performed by the Professor of Infectious Diseases from The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Together with our gastroenterology colleagues, the Infectious Diseases Division also investigates and treats cases of chronic hepatitis.
A microbiology laboratory and basic virology services are available in the hospital.
Staff
The Infectious Diseases physicians are trained and board certified in Europe. They have extensive experience in diagnosing and managing infections acquired in the UAE and sometimes outside the country.
The Infectious Diseases ward has highly skilled nurses with experience in the field of Infectious Diseases and General Medicine.
