Gastroenterology and Hepatology
The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is specialized on the investigation and treatment of health problems relating to the digestive system which is composed by the esophagus, stomach, small bowel and Colon as well as the liver, bile duct system and pancreas.
Type of Services
- All kinds of gastrointestinal endoscopies and investigations are available in our department
- An Emergency Endoscopy Service is offered 24 hours every day.
- Consultations for outpatients are offered daily in the Outpatient Clinic.
- Medical care for inpatients is provided on the ward.
Scope of Services
We provide expert management for patients with all kinds of digestive diseases and gastrointestinal disorders. Our gastroenterologist can help and advice you if you have symptoms such as abdominal pain, acid reflux and heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, jaundice, nausea, vomiting, hemorrhoids, perianal pain and anal fissures or others.
Our department offers a variety of important investigations which are commonly known as Endoscopy, Neurogastroenterology and Ultrasound . The following services can be offered.
Endoscopy:
- Gastroscopy: Endoscopy of esophagus, stomach and first part of small bowel
- Enteroscopy Endoscopy of the small bowel with specially designed endoscopes
- Colonoscopy: Endoscopy of the colon
- Endocapsule investigation of the small bowel
- Proctoscopy: Endoscopy of the anal channel and last part of the colon, treatment of e.g. hemorrhoids and anal fissures
- ERCP: Endoscopy and imaging of the bile duct and pancreatic duct system
- PTC: Percutaneous imaging of the bile duct system
- Direct Cholangioscopy: Endoscopy of the bile ducts
Neurogastroenterology:
- High Resolution Manometry: Investigation of the motility function in the esophagus
- Wireless pH-Metry: Investigation of acid reflux from the stomach to the esophagus
- pH-Metry/Impedance measurement: Simultaneous investigation of acid and non-acid reflux from the stomach to the esophagus
- Breath test analysis: A variety of metabolic functions can be tested such as testing for milk intolerance, fructose intolerance (enriched in soft drinks), helicobacter colonization of the stomach, bacterial overgrowth in small bowel and much more
Equipment
The most modern equipment was purchased to offer best services to our patients. The Endoscopy Unit was completely refurbished in order to offer new services and to meet the needs of an increasing number of patients.
Location
The Endoscopy Unit is located in the Main Investigation Building on the first floor.
