Emergency Centre

Al Ain Hospital’s Emergency Medicine and Trauma Centre handles 136,000 patients of all ages every year, including major trauma patients. This means that around 350 emergency cases are treated every day in the Emergency Medicine and Trauma Centre, which works hand in hand with the Police Emergency Medical Services.

The Centre contains 27 emergency treatment beds for adults providing 24 hour care to the critically ill and injured.

Al Ain Hospital’s Emergency Centre treats patients from all the surrounding areas including patients from Buraimi, Oman.

Scope of Services

  • Cases treated at the Emergency Centre include: pain management, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, orthopaedic, genitourinary, gynaecological, eye, ENT, metabolic, neurological, psychiatric, toxicological, trauma and burns cases

  • A fast track service provides treatment for less serious injuries. The aim of this service is to treat less urgent cases within an hour or less, improving patient convenience and reducing waiting times for relatively mild cases.

  • Paediatric critical care

  • Digital radiography which is faster and safer than conventional X-ray

  • Laboratory services and a blood bank

  • Rapid access to US, CT scan, MRI and ECHO.

  • Rapid access to in-patient wards, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), the Pharmacy, medical records and out-patient clinics.

  • We are also closely involved in community disaster preparedness.

The Emergency Medicine and Trauma Centre is divided into several sections as follows:

  • Triage Area: the senior nurse will prioritise patients according to the severity of their illness or injury, with more serious cases being treated first.

  • Fast Track: this has been added to the Emergency Centre’s services in response to the increase in the number of patients requiring treatment. It is staffed by an emergency physician and a nurse. Patients on fast track are treated for non-urgent complaints that require medical treatment, and this service reduces waiting times in the Emergency Centre.

  • Cubicles: these comprise four separate rooms plus one room containing 3 beds. They are for treating emergency cases that are stable, yet still in need of medical management.

  • Observation Rooms: there are two separate areas for males and females. These are for patients who have received their treatment but need further observation in the unit before being discharged.

  • Minor Trauma Room: this is a 3-bed room for managing minor injuries.

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Room: this is designed to care for severely ill patients including cardiac and stroke patients, and can also be used for medical and surgical emergencies.

  • Paediatrics Emergency Area: this part of the Emergency Centre is specially designed to care for paediatric patients.

  • Plaster Room: this is a small room for cast application to patients with fractures or sprains, which can also be used for minor procedures like abscess drainage.

Departmental Staff

The Centre’s medical and nursing staff is among the most highly trained and well-qualified in the region. They specialise in critical and acutely ill patients, offering them caring treatment in a welcoming environment.
