Al Ain Hospital’s department of Paediatrics comprises 4 main areas: the Paediatrics Emergency Room, the Paediatrics General Wards, the Paediatrics Out-Patient Clinic and the Neonatology Unit.
It provides very comprehensive clinical services in all fields of paediatrics to children from birth up to the age of 13 years.
The department is considered to be the main teaching facility for medical students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAE University and its residency training programme is accredited for the Arab Board of Medical Specialists as well as for Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics in the UK.
Our hospital is certified as a “Baby-Friendly Hospital”, which underlines the tremendous efforts of our breast-feeding team in educating and supporting mothers both within the hospital and at home.
The Paediatrics Emergency Room
Full and comprehensive emergency services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by qualified and expert medical/nursing teams. A wide spectrum of urgent and emergent diagnostic, curative and resuscitative procedures are performed.
The General Paediatric Wards
The Paediatrics wards are usually among the busiest in the hospital, especially during certain seasons. A wide range of procedures including diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive measures are provided to patients in a warm and caring manner. The wards are covered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the assigned team together with qualified and well-trained nursing staff. Paediatrics ICU services (cardiopulmonary monitoring, life-saving interventions, ventilation … etc) are also available around the clock for critically ill patients.
The Paediatrics Specialities:
1. Children’s Wellness Clinic:
Provides early detection, treatment and prevention of common conditions including obesity, overweight, underweight, high blood pressure, etc.
2. Asthma & Pulmonary Services:
We provide care for patients with bronchial asthma, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, congenital malformations of the respiratory system and a wide spectrum of other conditions.
3. Infectious Diseases Clinic:
Provides expert diagnosis and management of children either suffering or suspected to be suffering from an infectious disease.
4. Children’s Diabetes services:
The consultant Paediatrician treats and educates both established and newly diagnosed patients and their families in the self-management of all aspects of Type I and Type II diabetes.
5. Renal Services:
Provides diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of infants, children and adolescents with renal conditions such as urinary tract infections and other conditions affecting the kidneys and urinary system.
6. Allergy and Immunology Clinic:
Provides diagnosis and treatment for paediatric patients with allergy, asthma and primary or secondary immune dysfunction.
7. Children’s Gastrointestinal Services:
Provides care for children with all forms of gastrointestinal diseases including peptic ulcer disease, acute and chronic liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease and malabsorption syndrome. An endoscopy service is also available on site.
8. Genetic Clinic:
This clinic provides family counselling on genetic conditions including the pattern of inheritance, complications and prognoses. It also provides expert diagnosis and management of many genetic conditions including some metabolic diseases.
9. Cardiac services:
Offers an evaluation of children with suspected cardiac conditions and provides early diagnosis, including echocardiography.
10. Paediatric Intensive Care Services:
Provides around-the-clock special and intensive care for children with special medical needs.
11. Developmental Paediatric Services:
Provides diagnostic services and advice for children with suspected developmental and learning problems such as Attention Deficit Disorder and Autism.
12. Paediatric Surgery Team:
A highly skilled Paediatric Surgery team is available around the clock for children with surgical conditions, both emergency and elective.
The department has a full-time faculty, paediatrics house staff and residents in paediatrics training.
