The Neonatal Unit is a tertiary (Level III) unit catering for approximately 4000 deliveries per year. It provides an excellent level of care to premature babies and those with other critical conditions.
The unit has 22 cots, 6 of which are designated as intensive care beds. The 6 NICU beds are fully equipped with all the facilities required to monitor and manage critically ill neonates.
The unit’s equipment includes a modern blood gas/electrolyte analyser, ultrasound and ECHO machines. The Level II step-down part of the unit is used to care for NICU graduates, other moderately sick babies and babies requiring phototherapy treatment for jaundice.
The unit is capable of managing extreme prematures with birth weights of around 500 gr. and above, and providing all the support needed by the parents who are welcome to visit the unit 24 hours a day.
The newborns are admitted from the Labour and Delivery units and post-natal wards. The unit also receives babies transferred from hospitals in other parts of the UAE for specialist or intensive care.
The highly-qualified and well-trained members of our medical/nursing staff perform a catalogue of diagnostic/therapeutic procedures within the unit.
The unit also provides more sophisticated investigations such as chromosomal studies and metabolic screens, and offers proper and comprehensive care for pre/postoperative surgical cases.
The unit is staffed by highly-trained doctors and nurses with specialist skills for treating small, premature babies.
