Patient Rights
As a patient, it is your right
1- To be informed of your rights in an understandable way.
2- To be informed (patient & families) about the care and services available at the organisation and how to access these services
3- To receive considerate and respectful care at all times, consistent with your personal values and beliefs, and to have access to spiritual and religious support
4- To receive care that is respectful of your privacy
5- To have your valuable and personal belongings safeguarded whilst you are a patient.
6- To be protected from any type of assault whilst you are a patient.
7- To receive appropriate protection if you are a vulnerable child, a disabled individual and/or an elderly patient.
8- To have all your medical and personal information kept confidential and protected from loss or misuse.
9- To be given information on how to gain access to clinical research or clinical trials involving human subjects if the health organisation is currently involved in any relevant undertaking.
10- To be informed of how you would be notified and protected if you should participate in any clinical research or clinical trials.
11- To be informed of the healthcare organisation’s policy and process with regard to complaints, conflict and differences of opinion about patient care.
12- To have general consent explained in an understandable way.
13- To give written and informed consent before any non-emergency surgical, invasive or high-risk treatment or procedures.
14- To have informed consent explained in an understandable way, being given adequate and clear information about your illness, proposed treatment, care and alternatives, thus allowing you and your family to make appropriate decisions.
15- To be informed of any conflicts of interest involving the health organisation and your care.
16- To receive information (patient & family) on the relevant medical conditions and treatment, and participate in both the care process and the care decision if desired
17- To refuse or discontinue treatment.
