Admission & Discharge Process

The Patient Services Team will assist you with every step of your admission to Al Ain Hospital.

The Department of Patient Services will provide a courteous and efficient service at any time and ensure that the patient and family members are introduced to the Hospital’s services and physicians.

Hospital Admission Procedure

All expatriates living in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are required by law to obtain health insurance cover.

Patients are requested to bring a valid health card/Daman Health Insurance card and ID when visiting the hospital to demonstrate adequate cover for medical services.

Daman Health Card holders:

  • Out-patients/Emergency out-patients – medical services will be provided in accordance with the patient’s Daman health insurance policy.

  • In-patients

o Elective cases – pre-authorisation from Daman is required. The patient will be contacted by the Insurance Centre to inform him/her whether approval has been given and to advise on the next step.
o Emergency cases – patients will be admitted and pre-authorisation will be requested from Daman within 24 hours of admission.

  • If the request for coverage has been declined by Daman, the patient can – depending on his/her income – apply to the Medical Assistance Programme for financial help.

Other insurance companies

Patients are considered self-payers. All medical services provided by the hospital are to be paid for by the patient, who will then be l reimbursed by his/her insurance company.

Self-payers

Patients with no health insurance cover will pay the cost of medical services direct to the hospital.

Hospital Discharge Procedure

The Hospital Discharge Team will provide you with all the information you need to know. The patient’s discharge plan begins on the day of admission and involves the family and any significant others e.g. attendants. The multidisciplinary healthcare team assesses the needs of the patient, including any health education requirements, equipment needed e.g. a wheelchair, and other specific needs e.g. post-discharge services such as a referral to Home Care. The assessment will continue throughout the patient’s stay in hospital and the plan will be adjusted to the changing clinical needs of the individual.

1) Patients who have been discharged should have the following documents with them:

a) Copy of Discharge Summary
b) Medical Prescription

**Additional requirements for Daman Card holders only:

c) Copy of Approval Form
d) Authorisation for Hospitalisation

2) Once the documents have been completed, the patient should proceed to the cashier to make payment.

3) Please visit the Al Ain Hospital Pharmacy – we are dedicated to helping you to get the medication you need.
