Continuous Medical Education (CME)
Continuous Medical Education (CME) can be defined as the education process taken by healthcare professionals to develop their knowledge, skills and clinical performance following completion of their official training. CME helps healthcare providers to deliver competent professional services and is offered to doctors, nurses, paramedic staff, administrators, and any individuals providing healthcare services. CME is also required for the relicensing of doctors, dentists, pharmacists and nurses.
Scope of Services
Organising CME programmes.
1. Accredited Recurrent CMEs:
- Plenary session: Every Wednesday from 3.00 to 4.00 pm
2. Accredited Non-Recurrent CMEs:
These activities are arranged by the departments in the clinical institutes. They mainly run parallel with international events or specific educational needs, and are advertised upon scheduling.
3. Teleconferencing.
4. Medical University of Vienna.
These are scientific programmes presented by visiting professors from Vienna, Austria and are organised by the VAMED/MUV affiliations.
5. Online e-library.
6. Life Support Courses.
CME activities are offered to medical students and residents for the purposes of lifelong learning. Other SEHA healthcare facilities and the private sector are also welcome.
The services provided by the CME office are:
1. Information about CME.
2. Assistance for healthcare providers when applying for accreditation.
3. Follow up, monitoring and documentation of CME activities.
4. Brochure design, advertisement and registration.
5. Reports to administration and HAAD.
6. Database maintenance and tracking of participants.
7. Issuing attendance certificates.
Medical Library
The newly renovated medical library provides educational support. It has a an attractive display of books, a comfortable reading area and a computer laboratory with internet connections. The auditorium, which can accommodate an audience of 110, has a high-specification technical audiovisual system and the latest videoconferencing equipment. It also has a meeting room that can seats 22 people, and the reception desk provides assistance, printing and copying services.
