What does a Smoke Free environment mean?
Smoking or tobacco use of any kind will not be permitted within 100 meters of the hospital. This includes both indoors and outdoors.
Why is the hospital undertaking this initiative?
Al Ain Hospital needs to be compliant with all laws and policies set out by the government, HAAD and SEHA.
In addition to the laws and policies, smoking has been proven to cause death and being a proactive healthcare facility we are looking out for the best interests of the Al Ain Community.
Why can’t we smoke outside of the buildings?
Again, in order to be in compliance with laws and policies, Al Ain Hospital must be 100% smoke free.
It is also the responsibility of Al Ain Hospital as a health care provider to provide an overall healthy environment to patients and visitors both inside and out.
Do employees, patients and visitors have to quit smoking altogether?
No. This initiative is not to force anyone to quite smoking. However our policy means that individuals are unable to smoke within 100 meters of the hospital grounds (which is quite far!). However, if you are committed to stop smoking, Al Ain Hospital will help provide the resources for you to do so.
Will employees be expected to ask people to stop using tobacco products?
It is the responsibility of all of us to maintain a tobacco free environment. Employees will be given cards to hand out; these cards will politely remind people about our policy. Also, signs will be posted throughout the campus to serve as reminders.
